Why would you need a free Google Workspace admin account?
One of the services we offer is Google Workspace Admin Support. An easy way to facilitate this, is by inviting us into your existing workspace account.
Usually it would cost an additional license subscription to add an extra Admin user, but there’s a better, Smoother way. Here it is, in 5 simple steps, with screenshots.
Step 1: Add a new Organisational Unit for the Admin user
- Log into your existing Google Workspace Admin account
- Go to Organisational Units
- Create a new Organisational Unit called “External Admin”
This step isn’t strictly necessary, but ensures that the changes we make going forward don’t affect any other users.
Step 2: Add a free subscription to Cloud Identity
- Go to Google Workspace Billing
- In the left sidebar, under Categories, click Cloud Identity
- Under Cloud Identity Free, click Get Started
- Follow the process to add Cloud Identity Free subscription to your organisation
Step 3: Turn off Auto-Licensing of Google Workspace
- Go to License Settings
- In the left side, under Organisational Units, select External Admin
- Click License Settings to expand the options
- Set Google Workspace to OFF and click Save
Step 4: Add your external Google Workspace admin without a Google Workspace license
- Go to Users
- On the left side, select the External Admin Organisational Unit
- Click Add new user
- Fill out the form and click ADD NEW USER
- Share the username (email address ) and password with your new Admin
- From the Users screen, click into the Admin user’s account that you created
- Click Admin roles and privileges to expand the options
- Select the role you want to give – Super Admin will grant all permissions, for example
